CountryLink XPTCountryLink offers many destinations on the modern rail and coach network between Melbourne and Brisbane and throughout New South Wales. CountryLink’s fleet of XPT’s carry passengers in air conditioned comfort to their destinations in economy and first class seats, with sleeper facilities on overnight routes.

Enjoy panoramic views of the Australian landscape through large windows whilst reclining in comfortable seats with ample leg room and fold down tables. The CountryLink XPT operates main line passenger services between Sydney ↔ Melbourne, Sydney ↔ Brisbane and Sydney ↔ Surfers Paradise.

Enjoy the extensive range of hot and cold meals and tasty snacks from the buffet car. People traveling alone with small children, people with disabilities or the elderly who cannot visit the buffet can arrange to be served by the onboard crew. In addition, with 48 hours notice, we can provide for most special dietary requirements.

CountryLink SeatCountryLink Sleeper

Economy Class Seats: each seat features an individual reading light, drop down table, armrests and footrests and access to the buffet car. All seats face the direction of travel, but with notice given, can be rotated to form a group of four – especially popular for groups. Economy seats offer ample leg room and recline to 28 degrees.

First Class Seats: each seat features an individual reading light, drop down table, armrests and footrests and access to the buffet car. All seats face the direction of travel, but with notice given, can be rotated to form a group of four – especially popular for groups. Economy seats offer additional leg room and recline to 40 degrees.

Option 2: Sleepers

First Class Sleepers: available on overnight services between Sydney/Melbourne/Sydney, Sydney/Brisbane/Sydney and Sydney/Surfers Paradise/Sydney. Twin share cabins offer bed linen, towels and toiletries to ensure a wonderful overnight journey. Complimentary light breakfast is included and during the day, beds convert to comfortable seating. A shower and toilet is shared between every two cabins - maximum four people.

  • Children: Child fares are available to children aged 4 - 15 years inclusive or where an under-aged child occupies a seat or berth.
  • Ticketing and payment: for travel more than 60 days from date of booking, full payment is required within 30 days of booking. For travel less than 60 days but greater than 7 days from date of booking, payment deadline calculated by halving the number of days from date of travel. For travel less than 7 days from the date of booking, full payment is required within 24 hours
  • Cancellations and amendments: the following schedule of fees (per person and/ or per vehicle) will be levied in respect of cancellation of normal fares:
    • Less than 7 days before departure: 100% of total fare
    • After the departure date/time: No refund
  • Travel insurance: is highly recommended.
  • Luggage: Passengers are permitted to have three pieces of luggage made up of the following: Checked Luggage: - Passengers may check in 2 items of luggage, each with a minimum weight of 5kg and maximum weight of 20kg and total linear measurement (i.e. Length depth and width) not exceeding 180cm. In addition to two items of checked luggage, passengers may take on board with them one item of hand luggage to a maximum weight of 5kg and total linear measurement not exceeding 140cm. Unchecked Luggage: - Passengers who do not wish to check in their luggage may carry on board two items of luggage, to a maximum weight of 25kg and total linear measurement not exceeding 180cm each, that are to be stored at the end of each carriage. In addition passengers may take on board with them one item of hand luggage to a maximum weight of 5kg and total linear measurement not exceeding 140cm. Checked passenger luggage must be lodged at least 30 minutes prior to departure of the service. Please note there islimited space for booked luggage and restrictions do apply during peak periods. Carriage of Surfboards (maximum height 1.8m) snowboards, golf clubs and bicycles is limited to three spaces per service on the train and one space on the coach. These items are conveyed at owner’s risk. Space must be reserved prior to travel. Bicycles must be boxed in an approved, recognised bicycle container and booked in 60 minutes prior to departure of the service. Surfboards must be in protective cover. Only one board per bag. Any damaged luggage item that cannot be secured or has protruding contents will not be accepted. Liability is limited to $300.00, private travel insurance is recommended. CountryLink has no liability for items such as cameras, electrical goods, jewellery, money and tools; Suitcases, bags, backpacks and similar items; Bicycles, surfboards, snowboards and golf clubs; any luggage not issued with a CountryLink luggage check.
